Modern touch for 16th Century Inn

With a growing estate of 280 sites spanning the North West, North Wales and Staffordshire Robinsons are one of the UK’s most active regional pub operators.

Situated in leafy Congleton the Swettenham Arms is one of Robinson’s most popular gastro country inns and is the setting for the latest Medlock collaboration. Popular with country walkers and famed for its vintage car and bike meet ups during summer months we have recently handed over the iconic 16th Century Inn and wedding venue after an extensive refurbishment.

Working closely with Robinson’s in-house design team the project brief focused on retaining many of the original characteristics of the pub trade area. The feature fireplaces have been lovingly restored and the original copper bar top has been fully reinstated to its former glory. The oak beams have been sandblasted and the new décor features warm neutral tones to create an inviting ambiance whilst retaining the pub’s character. The popular 120 guest capacity function and wedding room, the Lovell Suite, has also received a full redecoration just in time for the upcoming summer wedding season.

At the rear of the building we also built a brand-new kitchen extension to elevate the food offering for visitors to both the pub and wedding suite. The new kitchen has allowed for greater output from the culinary team and the new menu has gone down a treat with pub regulars.

Externally, the Swettenham is decorated with blooming new flowers, pretty festoon lighting and a new signage scheme. The large patio features new external furniture sourced locally to provide the perfect spot to unwind after walks around the neighbouring Lovell Quinta Aboretum and beyond.
