New Chester Market win for Medlock
Following on from our Southport Market, Stockport Produce Hall and Society Manchester Food Hall projects Medlock has been appointed to deliver the fit out of the new market hall at the £70m Chester Northgate development by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Heralded as a “traditional modern market” the space design has taken inspiration from markets from around the world including Rotterdam, Christchurch, Seattle and Barcelona. Accentuated by rich greenery, natural light openings and sustainable feature timber throughout, the market will become the showcase community space within the Northgate development.
Medlock will be creating 39 timber stalls for independent traders to utilize, a performance stage and communal dining and seating areas for members of the public to enjoy the produce, goods and authentic street food experiences on offer.
With the first market in Chester dating back to 1159 the city has a rich street trading history. The site of the new market was the location of the XX Legion of Roman Army fortress and barracks who were largely responsible for establishing Chester in the first century AD.
Medlock is excited to be playing a part in the next phase of Chester’s historic market trading history with handover set for late October.
